Kind of like a purring wookie

Usually, Lucy cat helps me enjoy Cute Overload, and lately I've been remembering to turn on the Eagle Cam channel on local access so she can watch.

But tonight when I played this video -- Tio Pepe, stopped whatever fuzzy things he was doing, looked at the screen, made his eyes all big as cast iron pans, listened, then slowly moved to the back bedroom.

Check it!

Scuba Kitty!

I never could muster the interest and courage to go scuba diving, but hey I've snorkeled a bit and that's plenty for me. But not for SCUBA KITTY!!

You Cute Overload regulars out there will have already seen this, but I must make sure all y'all get a glimpse.

Since I'm here, how about a photo or 2.

The kitties huddle on the couch on a chilly night in New England. Or, could it be love?

There's been yet another photo exhibit opening at the Hallmark Museum on Avenue A. Bo, however, is the only star worth knowing in Turners Falls. Note the matching leash while she works the red carpet. A classic look.

Everybody poops! Or, do they?

This entry is for all my baby-makin friends out West who now only talk about poo and the babies that make it.

***

Tio Pepe was a bit distressed Sunday night. He was straining to go #2, and was puking up whenever he ate food or drank water. Memories of his near fatal urinary track crystals in '03 and the clear discomfort he was in led me to take him to the emergency vet at 1 a.m. that night. (It was perfect timing for a visit from Brother Buttwipe!)

Tio Poopy is a beautiful boy kitty with the softest fur in the world. He has good genes, but he is also a meticulous groomer. This combined with a little summer dehydration caused him to have giant rock hard hairball poos stuck in him so that he couldn't go. Some fun quotes from the evening, "he couldn't have passed that on his own." Just what did they do in that back room?!? Was it an emergency, I wondered out loud? "I wouldn't have wanted that in there." I got to see the x-rays and everything. GIANT POOS ON FILM! $205 worth of Poo to be exact.

I've been giving him some medicine for a few days, and now finally this afternoon, he has had his first poo since they wrenched one out of him on Sunday night. Yay!

Go Tio Poopy, Go!

I haven't had time to figure out how to get my photos from my camera to my computer, since that whole interdevice communication thing broke down, but here's an oldy but goody of Tio in the dryer at my old Bothell apartment.

The cats are dumb

My landlord helped me install AC in my front room today, and just in time! The heat wave is here! Temps in the 90s, and tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed to have high humidity on top of that. So part of my interest in getting AC was for the kitty-poos. Yes, they are spoiled. You got a problem with that? Another part was as incentive for kitty sitters which I suspect will work out nicely. A side benefit -- I'd get to enjoy it too. The cats however, are stupid, and have proceded to nap in the back bedroom which is currently the hottest room in the apartment. Hulk not understand. They say they are desert animals, but sheesh.

Another thing Hulk does not understand... Lucy's recent interest in cat naps by the loo.

Lucy is a professional. Do not underestimate her. I swear my clean laundry was on the floor for only a few minutes before I look over and something was AGAIN not quite right with the picture.

The Devil is in the Dairy

Mz. B almost finished her 1/2 gallon of milk while she was here (in 48 hours!), but not quite, so Lucy and Tio have been enjoying fresh Satan Juice. I poured the last of it into their bowl this afternoon.

Here, Lucy is possessed and will eat Tio Pepe if he even thinks about interrupting her turn at the trough of Satan.

Eagles as cat sitters?

I finally remembered to turn on local access TV to see the eagles live during the day time today. On Monday one of the two little eagle chickies hatched, and I'm not sure yet if there's word on whether the second one has hatched yet. I watched for a bit then continued playing in my apartment, doing whatever it is I do when I'm not really accomplishing anything. Then, I found lucy like this:

IMG_3346_1.JPG

She was totally consumed with watching the birdies. I'm not sure if she was so fascinated because she thought they looked like prey, or if she knew deep down that they thought of her as prey. So, as I left my apartment mid afternoon to start my day, this was the scene.

Climb every laundry mountain

I finally got some laundry done tonight. Four triple loads and a single at Suzee's! The current plan is to have the clean laundry piled up in my living room, so I'll be more motivated to fold it. Luzee however, has another plan.

By request from Mz. Z - UMASS Amherst campus photos

I had some time in between my Wave Books internship in East Hampton and a poetry reading on campus to finally take photos of the UMASS campus. Sorry it took awhile Mz. Z! It snowed a smidge this afternoon, so the campus doesn't look too bad. It was twilight, so not all the photos are in focus, but they're still festive. UMASS Amherst actually isn't the most picturesque campus. Smith, Amherst, and Mt. Holyoke campuses nearby are super charming. I'll try to get some photos of them too. A few of the buildings at UMASS fall into the University of Oregon Prince Lucien Hall category of beauty -- as in the architect liked it, and that's about it. The W.E.B. Dubois Library is looking its best when reflected in the campus pond. For more photos of UMASS go to flickr!

There is a cute little chapel.

More pics, new walksies territory, and Lucy takes over

I put that nifty Flickr banner at the top of this here blog. What do ya'll think? I find it festive. Today: I slept in, went for a long long walk along the most southern parts of the power canal which was new to me, went to an art opening reception at the UMASS student union, and then Lucy took over my desk. It's hard to write under these conditions.

IMG_2360_1.JPG

I took pictures of the art, but I figure maybe it's uncool to post them on the internet without permission, so you'll have to imagine a painting with a dude sticking out his tongue and either spitting blood or licking it; a photograph of a lady on a couch looking somewhat naughty; a mannequin of a young girl in a hospital gown with real yet unreal feet and hands and real human hair, but no face, and the hair all over where the face would be; a big blue thing with pink thingies sticking out of it with cotton coming out of the pink thingies and a noose holding it all up; an all black painting and/or photograph (Buttwipe would have loved it); a lime green boa with what looks like long boogers at each end of it; a bunch of rubber tubing cut up and stuck on a board, ends up, in a kind of rubber tubing cityscape; and much much more!

So here's pics from my walksies instead. More, of course, on flickr.

Maybe not

I tried to go for walksies today because it was 51 degrees (!!) outside, but when I got out there the wind was super nasty and blowing all of the dirt and gravel from snow plowing into my eyes. Most every bit of snow is melted, though we might get some on Monday. I've been told my first winter here has been "easy." It's not over yet, so we'll see. We did have snow last weekend, and Monday when I took Bo for our last doggy sitting walksies together at dusk, I was thinking how amazing it had been that I hadn't pulled a Gracie yet, and fallen on my butt on the icey sidewalks. Jinx! Of course, I then promptly fell. Sigh. I think that was the first (and so far only) day that the weather really annoyed me. I had to park my car 2 blocks away because of this village's random parking policies associated with snow plowing, I got stuck in a traffic jam for no reason on 91 (jams hardly happen here!), and I had to drive slower on the back roads to not slide off of them, making me late to all of my appointments, and my left foot was hurting because my snow boots really don't have enough arch support (fixed! I bought new boots).

Things are slow here ... no more Bo to play with (she's on a road trip to New York City to work on her book deal ... no really!), The Lady Killigrew is closed until mid next week, for the life of me I can't make decisions about whether or not I should do an additional internship at Wave Books (their site seems to be down at the moment - maybe they need ops help?), and if I'm lucky I'm maybe only half way done with my paper on Sherman Alexie's book of poems The Summer of Black Widows. I've been not letting myself do fun things, in order to get this paper done, but I'm not sure that strategy is really working. I'm just mostly crabby instead. Richie understands!!

Let's see ... since I didn't go for walksies today ... what's on my camera to share ...

Lucy's ready for classes to start again on January 30th! Go Lucy!

Fuzzy Fun

While I slept, someone bit holes into the cover of my paperback book, How Dogs Think.

IMG_1723_1.JPG

TIO POOOOPY appears to be making an editorial comment on our collective dog sitting project which lasts until the 17th. The kitties seem to be much more comfortable around Bo now though. It might have helped that on Tuesday Lucy learned that she could tag Bo on the nose, and Bo would run away. :-) You go girl kitty! Bo has been following me around the apartment watching me (especially when I'm in the kitchen getting snacks), and Lucy's been hanging a few feet back watching Bo watch me. Very One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Tio and Bo sniffed noses yesterday on the couch, which was pretty damn cute. Lucy has made it perfectly clear that I'm still in trouble for leaving over the holidays, and is velcro kitty even when Bo is close. The Animal Fest in Turners is the perfect January indoor entertainment folks!! Especially when I'm just spacing out trying not to let my sore throat turn into a cold, and it's cold outside (but thankfully unseasonably not as cold as it could be given it's January in New England.) More entries later on my holidays if I can fight off this cold .... FIGHT FIGHT!

Current Status-- Bo is on the couch.

One of many more entries to come chronicling the adventures of Bo Doggy

I'm Bo Doggy sitting this weekend! The kitties are fine technically, but showing clear signs of being miffed (Lucy) and petrified (Tio Pepe). We're all still alive though, and Bo seems to be settling in ok. Here are some pictures highlighting our first day.

Kitties! Snow day!

More festive photos for ya'll. Yesterday, I put the kitties on the windowsill so they could make funny noises at the birdies that were outside flitting around on the trees. Happy red berries for birdies. Happy cute little fuzzy wannabe killers. Killers shouldn't be cute, but they can be under the right fuzzy circumstances.

IMG_0553_1.JPG

Today, mega snow! These photos are from my front window. UMASS announced it was a snow day, no classes. Kinda less thrilling when I didn't have any classes scheduled anyway, but still nice. I'm going to walk around out there in a bit once I get bundled up.

More Turners Falls pictures for you and America's Next Cat Model

Just a note to say I went for walksies this afternoon and took a bunch more photos of Turners Falls. I started out with a spirtual mindset and took pictures of all the churches, then found myself exploring new territory along the river more south of where I usually take pictures, and met a chipper Turners Fallsian kitty. I also got some lovely Tio Pepe shots in -- looking kinda freaky and wigged out, but that's why we love him, right? Here's a sampler:

Some of you have asked

How are the kitties? Well, they're fuzzy! I know this because Lucy is even more of a "Velcro Kitty" since I'm home all the time. Here she is glaring at me because I was moving around too much at my desk, and not letting her get on my lap. I didn't feel like using a flash, so you can't actually see her glaring, but I like the effect anyway.
