The Devil is in the Dairy

Mz. B almost finished her 1/2 gallon of milk while she was here (in 48 hours!), but not quite, so Lucy and Tio have been enjoying fresh Satan Juice. I poured the last of it into their bowl this afternoon.

Here, Lucy is possessed and will eat Tio Pepe if he even thinks about interrupting her turn at the trough of Satan.

Happy visit with Mz. B!

Mz. B and I had a great time during her brief 48 hour visit. We had a stroll around Turners Falls, a Thai food adventure in Greenfield (plan B since the Koko cafe failed to cook that day), naps!, yummy lunch in Amherst at Fresh Side, an Amherst Books visit, a tour of the Emily Dickinson museum, happy cow and lamb sitings, Mz. B had soft serve ice cream at Yelena's in Turners, naps!, dinner at the Lady Killigrew, a drink at Yesterday's! with a neighbor, laundry at Suzee's, and finally hangin out at a bus stop in Brattleboro, VT so she could meet up with the dude in Montreal. Whew! And I didn't even break the happy fun Mz. B -- lots of naps and potty breaks for the sake of Beulah. :-)

It has legs!

By request: Cushion update

By rather persistent request from Timmy, here is your cushion update.

The cushion moves no more in Massachuesetts.
The cushion flies on the wind to Connecticut.
The cusion lives.
The cushion dies.
Softer still in the night.

Or, I can't see the cushion any more from my window. And, I read way too much Emily Dickinson last night.

Please, take a moment to remember the cushion:

A Little Madness in the Spring

I've been having crazy poetry fun the last few days. First there was the road trip to NYC on Thursday to see all of the Wave Books authors (with books published this spring) give a reading at the New School. Lori, managing editor, and I drove down, and I drove my car in NEW YORK CITY! I did ok, except one crazy lane change after a toll bridge which I couldn't make in time, so we added an hour to our road trip home. Oh well. Other than that I drove ok! We had to take a car because of all the books needing to be in a trunk, to be sold at the reading. Joshua Beckman, Anthony McCann, and Noelle Kocot read, and they were all great, especially Noelle's relentless yet amazing Poem for the End of Time. In less than 24 hours in the city we crammed in eating yummy noodles by Union Square, a stop at The Strand Bookstore, setting up the table of books for the reading and selling a tonne of books, yummy dinner and drinks out on the town at Cafe Loup then the Cedar Tavern, crashing for the night on an aero bed in a poet's kitchen, a stroll in Brooklyn including stops at an Italian bakery and "The Pork Shop", and a yummy french toast breakfast at the Union Smith Cafe in Brooklyn. Whew! After my second trip to NYC, I now "get it" -- that is why everyone in Massachusetts in the poetry program seems to gush enthusiasm about New York.

And then, last night I participated in "A Little Madness in the Spring," a marathon reading of all 1789 poems written by Emily Dickinson, at the Emily Dickinson museum in Amherst, MA. It started at 9 a.m. and lasted 19 hours. I came in to help with the crucial last leg, showing up at 1:30 a.m. to read 70 plus poems in classic me style to perk up the bleary eyed folk who were sticking with it until the end (many had been there since 9 a.m.!). Several of my UMASS MFA buddies were there too. After I read, the group of about 10 of us finished up until 4 a.m. rotating who read her poems, and occasionally getting up to read in different rooms of the old Dickinson homestead. Reading her work in the bedroom in which she wrote the poems was especially cool.

Here's a lovely samurai in Brooklyn. More photos at flickr!

Happy Patriots' Day to me!

Welcome to my birthday! Yes, if you know me and forgot, now is the time when you send me a festive email. :-P

My birthday this year is especially patriotic and wholesome. Why? It's a holiday in Massachusetts today for Patriots' Day. The holiday honors the Battle of Lexington and Concord which started the American Revolutionary War. Go! Fight! Win!

Minutepeople unite! Boston Marathoners ran today too!

Later, I will be celebrating this historic moment by making a few UMASS pals eat Korean Food with me at a place on Route 9 in Hadley that has a reputation for being yummy. We shall see!

Zoom, zoom, zoom!

UMASS has a pair of peregrine falcons at the top of the W.E.B. DuBois Library. The fastest animals on earth! Squirrels, duckies, and birdies beware! Some fun quotes:

"Natthorst has noticed that although mockingbirds usually like high places, here they keep a low profile:'I saw one on a treetop one day and I thought, you’d better not perch there. The next minute, it was a puff of feathers.'"

"He says: 'Every time I look into our mother peregrine’s wild eyes, I know that she would eat me if she were large enough to do it.'"

An Eagle update: There are now 2 eagle chickies that Mom Eagle keeps sitting on. Yesterday, I got to see her feed the 2 youngins on Eagle TV (MCTV, Channel 17 in Montague/Turners). Lately a bunch of headless fishies lounge in the nest waiting for feeding time. Daddy Eagle seems to enjoy the heads before giving the fishies to the chickies, via Mommy. It was a whole different take on Easter chickies for me ... more nature and deathlike than cutie-pie baby chicks. Although, the eaglettes are awful damn cute. There are some still shots here where you can usually see one or two pics of the baby eagles. There was also something furry in the nest that had been munched on, but it was not identifiable ... I still have my kitties safe and sound! You can see the eagle cam live too, for 10 minutes at a time here.

Eagles as cat sitters?

I finally remembered to turn on local access TV to see the eagles live during the day time today. On Monday one of the two little eagle chickies hatched, and I'm not sure yet if there's word on whether the second one has hatched yet. I watched for a bit then continued playing in my apartment, doing whatever it is I do when I'm not really accomplishing anything. Then, I found lucy like this:

IMG_3346_1.JPG

She was totally consumed with watching the birdies. I'm not sure if she was so fascinated because she thought they looked like prey, or if she knew deep down that they thought of her as prey. So, as I left my apartment mid afternoon to start my day, this was the scene.

Start spreading the news!

I went to NYC for the first time ever this last weekend! It was awesome! I get to go again on April 20th for a poetry event for my internship! How cooooool is that? For photos of my first trip, see flickr!

Tiffy and I explored her and Mr. D's favorite haunts in Brooklyn Heights and in THE city:

--Yummy Sushi!
--Yummy breakfast where green aliens eat free! Siggy's: 76 Henry St, at Clark St, Brooklyn, NY 11201
--Yummy couscous!

Bonus:
--Tiffy and I had communist drinks.
--I got to see an absolutely awesome dance rehearsal. Go see the TMC show in June at the Duke!
--many epiphanies with Tiffanies! NYC rocks!

And, I had happy UMASS buddies join me on the road trip from Amherst to New Haven by carpool, and New Haven to Grand Central Station by train. And back again to Massachusetts too! They didn't abandon me. :-)
You'll see them in the flickr photos.

The Cushion is on the move

When J visited at one point there was a cushion in the road on my street. As we left for one of our adventures, I slowly drove around it. There was a cushion in the road! Then, J left on March 21st, and the cushion was forgotten. Until ...
