It's snowing! It's snowing!

Greetings!

In my quest to cover more ground photographically, I took my camera to a favorite spot in Montague, MA today. I captured The Lady Killigrew, The Book Mill, and other associated buildings near the Saw Mill River. Since it was snowing, it was especially scenic. More photos at flickr.

And bonus -- I ate a yummy #2 sammich at the Lady, ran into Bo and Bo's owner there, and bought 2 books at The Book Mill (their motto being -- "Books you don't need in a place you can't find" and no, I didn't technically need the books, but they're mine now!). I didn't think it would keep snowing, but it did ... so since I slipped and slided a bit on my way home (didn't run into anything!), the rest of my evening will be spent chillin in my apartment. Current temperature is 21.4 degrees F. I'd say we have at least 3 inches, maybe 4. As you can see, Lucy is in charge, AGAIN. I think she's leaning towards watching a DVD.

More pics, new walksies territory, and Lucy takes over

I put that nifty Flickr banner at the top of this here blog. What do ya'll think? I find it festive. Today: I slept in, went for a long long walk along the most southern parts of the power canal which was new to me, went to an art opening reception at the UMASS student union, and then Lucy took over my desk. It's hard to write under these conditions.

I took pictures of the art, but I figure maybe it's uncool to post them on the internet without permission, so you'll have to imagine a painting with a dude sticking out his tongue and either spitting blood or licking it; a photograph of a lady on a couch looking somewhat naughty; a mannequin of a young girl in a hospital gown with real yet unreal feet and hands and real human hair, but no face, and the hair all over where the face would be; a big blue thing with pink thingies sticking out of it with cotton coming out of the pink thingies and a noose holding it all up; an all black painting and/or photograph (Buttwipe would have loved it); a lime green boa with what looks like long boogers at each end of it; a bunch of rubber tubing cut up and stuck on a board, ends up, in a kind of rubber tubing cityscape; and much much more!

So here's pics from my walksies instead. More, of course, on flickr.

58 degrees! Spring is taunting us -- 0 degree low forecast for Saturday

Had a lovely afternoon here in Turners. I stole Bo and we walked by the River. Everyone who could escape their commitments was out walking around with their kids or doggies. It was spring fever madness I tell you! More at flickr.
The gulls were getting fed.

Happy snow!

I only took a couple of pictures, cus I was too busy spazzin on my walk. Did I mention I like snow?

Bo and I stopped to look at my car:

Then my upstairs neighbor, Kim, came by to hop into hers. Takes a few minutes to brush off the snow though.

Not so much snow, as COLD!

We didn't get pummeled with snow like most of the east coast, but we have gotten a bit, maybe 4-5 inches? I'm about to go out and check it out. But, it is 21 degrees outside at 3:15 p.m. EEEK! Bo is coming over so we can go for a walk in the snow. SNOW! I will take pictures. I think it's my Willamette Valley Girl upbringing that always makes me hyper when it snows. I might have to call Tiffy later on. The internets say they got up to 22 inches in NYC!!

My favorite weather link shows that as of 9 a.m. Greenfield had 3 inches, which is the closest town reporting on exact snow amounts. Word here is that: "Further northwest from far northwest Massachusetts including western sections of Franklin and Hampshire County into western and northern Cheshire County of southwest New Hampshire... this will be manageable snow event with light to moderate snow."

True. I was ready for drama though.

44 degrees, sunshine, a "mountain" ...

... and no classes. What more could you want on Groundhogs day in New England? I hiked up Mt. Sugarloaf this afternoon, which is between Sunderland and South Deerfield. Happy weather and scenic view and new rechargable camera batteries means --- I took pictures! There are 2 Mt. Sugarloafs, right next to each other. The southern one, which I climbed, is the smaller one and easiest to climb up. The map isn't telling me the elevation of the southern one, but the northern one is a whopping 791 feet high! They have the cutest little mountains out here! I was originally thinking, well, I'll just see how far I get -- wasn't necessariily looking for a major workout -- when all of I sudden I was at the top!

I've decided Robert Frost's poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" isn't all that ominous afterall. Sure, it's about death and stuff, but there's just the woods, not a forest. There are no leaves on the trees in deciduous New England, so it's less dark. If there is any light at all, the snow enhances it. Try the darkest day of the year in the middle of the Hoh Rain Forest! Much creepier when you're talking about death. Plus, Mr. Frost had a happy horsey to guide him along. After you see the pictures, I think you'll agree.
